What is bioCO₂?

The capture of this gas, produced naturally, avoids its emission into the atmosphere and reuses it in industrial processes.
Biogenic CO₂ is a type of carbon dioxide that is released naturally during the decomposition of organic waste such as agricultural, livestock or forestry waste. This renewable gas has multiple uses in different industries, such as agri-food or sustainable fuels.
In Biorig’s biomethane plants, biogenic CO₂ is generated in the process of anaerobic digestion of organic waste, whereby slurry, manure and straw are decomposed. Through this technique, biogas is produced which is purified to separate the biomethane (CH4) and CO2 contained in the biogas.
The bioCO2 produced in Biorig’s plants does not add new carbon to the atmosphere, as the facilities capture the carbon that would be naturally emitted to the outside world for use as a key input in the production of a range of other products.
